I’m a veteran of 35+ years in the industry of Life Sciences. I began my career as a teacher focussed on computer science, chemistry and sport. Very quickly I joined an international company called Corning Medical (now part of Siemens Healthcare) as an application scientist, moving into the commercial side as product specialist/manager soon after.
Luckily I got my break when developing distribution channels for Skatron A/S and joined them to run their international sales and marketing. I spent 3 years in Nr Drammen, Norway to return to Becton Dickinson as divisional manager (for Vacutainer and Tissue Culture) in Oxford UK. After a year or so I was invited to run the European business of tissue culture products and moved to Grenoble, France for 6 years.
Again returning to the UK I joined Boehringer Mannheim as a business unit manager. As those in this industry will know BM was acquired by Roche and I was lucky enough to hold the position of SVP Strategic Planning in the Diagnostics division.
I decided to start my own consultancy company in 2002 and have enjoyed a successful 15+ years providing management support, business analysis and strategic thinking to a range of start-ups, SMEs and multinationals. During my career I have noticed that market data is hard to come by unless you spend a lot of money. Start-ups can’t really afford it when it is so important to them. So I decided to start offering market data for (what I consider) a reasonable price.
Also in my time in Life Sciences (this applies only to Life Sciences) that good marketing discipline is very lacking. So I have listed books which I found really useful as I grew into a real marketing guy.
